Composer, Sound Designer, Keyboardist
Nick Peck is a composer/sound designer/ keyboardist who has been active in music and post production for over three decades. He has held positions at Lucasarts Entertainment, Skywalker Sound, and Activision, and has been the audio director of Disney Publishing Wordwide for the last eight years. He holds a BA in psychology from UC Berkeley, a BA in electronic music from San Francisco State University, and an MFA in electronic music from Mills College, where he studied with Pauline Oliveros, Alvin Curran, Maggie Payne, and Chris Brown. He wrote articles for Electronic Musician and Mix magazines for about a decade, is a panelist on the Audio Nowcast podcast. He has performed in progressive rock bands, jambands, traditional and soul jazz bands, and experimental electronic music ensembles. His Primary art-for-art's-sake endeavor these days is his YouTube channel, Underthebigtree, which focuses on issues in modular synthesis, musical performance and creativity, and DIY electronics.

Nick will take you through the history and philosophy of the Serge Modular (the other west coast synthesizer), and he will dive into the history of the Serge being used at Cal Arts, Hollywood, San Francisco, Sound Transform Systems (Oakland) and RandomSource (Berlin). Nick will have his Serge Modular on stage and he will show the synthesizer in depth.
